Breastfeeding has been a wonderful experience for me and Madeline. It has had amazing and extremely beneficial results with Madeline's health and has been a key part in the bonding experience between us. When she was born, I always planned on nursing her until she was a year old. When she turned one things were going so well I decided to keep going until she was 18 months old. Then, we made the decision to move to Saudi Arabia and I decided that nursing Madeline until after we got here would be a good idea so she could have that comfort during the big transition to life here.
So since we arrived here I have been slowly trying to wean her. It was really hard at first because she was so depedant on it in the morning, before her nap, and before bedtime. When I would say, "we're not going to nurse right now Madeline," she would literally kick me she was so upset. But I slowly eliminated each nursing session - the last, surprisingly her naptime nursing - and as of July 31st, 2010 she is officially WEANED!!
All in all, I am really glad I was able to nurse her as long as I did, and I just hope I will be able to nurse the next baby as successfully.
