Since my last glucola test I've been eating better and I've even started exercising. It's not much - I thought I should start out light since I am pregnant and you aren't supposed to go hard and heavy. I use the elliptical. I try to keep my heart rate under 140 - usually between 130 and 140. I am feeling MUCH better. It is amazing how much better exercise makes you feel... I highly recommend it.
So this morning was the dreaded 3-hour test to determine if I am, in fact, a gestational diabetic. My mom helped me realize that I shouldn't look at it like that - in a negative way (Thanks Momma). I am blessed to live in a time and in a place where they can monitor things like that and catch them early so that you can take steps to prevent major issues and take care of it. That's what good moms do! They take care of things. She's right. So really, it's a positive thing.
My blood sugar goals to beat:
Fasting < or = 95
*Drink gross sugary orange drink, wait an hour.*
Post 1-hour < or = 190
Post 2-hours < or = 165
Post 3-hours < or = 145
My results:
Fasting 81 -- Nice!
Post 1-hour 183 -- WooHoo!!
Post 2-hours 171 -- Ouch. Doubt. Fear. Irritation. A phone call to mom and a few tears.
Post 3-hours 92 -- Excuse me??! Is that thing working correctly? Why, YES, It is!!! Your receptors are working perfectly Edith Ann!! You DO NOT HAVE GESTATIONAL DIABETES!!! Halelujah!!!! Can I get a Whoop Whoop?!
So yeah, I think this happened for a reason. I needed a little bit of a wake up call so I could get back into taking better care of me.
Thanks Tom. In other news...
Tonight Paul and I start our 7-week pregnancy classes at the hospital where Madeline will be born. In the first class we discuss discomforts, danger signs, true labor vs. false labor and the terminology pertaining to the last weeks of pregnancy (Basically understanding what is normal vs. abnormal). I'm excited. I think these classes will be fun. Something different for Paul and I to do together. It will also help Paul learn more about all this and be a good refresher for me (from nursing school).
Kitty has some new sexy RED Soft Paws. They aren't on her yet. We still have a few left over from our last purchase that we are using, but I figure by July she'll be sporting some flashy red fingernails, lookin' hot, and not damaging my favorite chair. If you have a kitty that scratches your furniture for sport, we highly recommend these little babies. They don't hurt the animal, they can still attempt to scratch your furniture, but no damage is done. Everyone's happy and humane.

YEAH, Edith!!! So glad that all is well. And good for you for going the pregnancy exercise route. I always like to exercise when I'm pregnant -- at least after the first couple of months when I spend my "gym time" in front of the toilet working on my abs. ;) Somehow I can NEVER keep my heart rate down as low as it should be, though. I always find it up close to 170!!! I can do just about any machine of level 1, and still have a heart rate of 150 or higher. My body is WEIRD!!!
Thank you! :)
You know, my heart rate is always pretty high - 90's-100's regularly. That just sitting. So getting up to 130-140 is NOT a difficult task.
Great News Edith!!! I am so glad the tests went well for you. Don't over do the work outs :)
