We Have a Really Weird Cat...

...but we totally love her. She is quite the character.

Instructions/Information for my mom and Amber pertaining to Kitty while Paul and I are gone tonight:

Kitty Mevec...

Loves to play with her bird on a string and her blue fish on a string.

Does not like to be pet. If she comes up and sits by you then you may pet her. If she begins licking herself this means she wants you to stop and she needs to clean off the gross human scent.

Has this thing about being pet when she eats her food. It’s almost like she has associated eating with affection. We are trying to get her off of this trail of thought because sometimes she overeats and then pukes, so we will not pet her when she is eating. We do tell her she is a good kitty though and pet her before and afterwards.

Has a yellow shoebox near the back door. This is her SAFE ZONE. If she goes into this shoebox it means you cannot touch her. She actually believes this. Do not touch her.

Hates to be picked up. She only likes when I pick her up, even then sometimes she doesn’t like it.

Usually sleeps with Paul and me at the foot of our bed on her red blanket, but may venture upstairs to look at you.

Meows loudly for no reason while walking around the house. It may mean that she has discovered a bug or spider though, so you might want to go check it out.

May go into erratic fits of hyperactive behavior and run around the house speedily, jumping over couches and ramming her head into blinds. This is a form of play when she is bored and we are not satisfying her.

May lie on the floor under the chairs and kick the feet of the chair. Paul usually says, Are you kickin’? Are you kickin? - and she gets really excited.

Has a regular visitor – A gray cat named Romeo. He is neutered and de-clawed and belongs to the neighbors to the left. He likes to come to the back door or the window and stare at kitty. Sometimes, they will test each other and see who is scarier and you will see kitty literally trying to jump through the window or the back door. Of course, there is no way for her to get out so it’s just loud and looks as if she is trying to kill herself by committing suicide and ramming her head into the glass. Just let her get it out. Sometimes, they will just meow at each other for a while. Do not let him inside.

Do not let her outside. She is an indoor cat.

Regularly picks at her soft paws. If you happen to see her doing this, just say (in a low, dominant and slow voice) kiiiiiiiittttyy, and point your finger at her and say, No!

Loves to play peek-a-boo with Paul.

Loves to sit in the bathtub when you are going to the bathroom and play peek-a-boo.

Food and kitty treats are in the pantry.

Is not aloud in the pantry, the baby’s room, the bassinet, cupboards, on tables and countertops.

Scratches the rugs in front of the doors – this is okay. She thinks they are hers. She may even turn them over and attempt to tear them apart - this is okay.
