I remember my childhood as a happy one. We had our trials and our struggles, but there was a plethora of good times! Most of my favorite memories involve sitting around with my family and laughing so hard we would cry. It's just how it was.
I always felt like, no matter how many trials we went through, my family was close, and we looked out for each other.
Here's a picture of me in 1985, I was 7 years old.

Isn't my hair awesome??!! My mom was a beautician and she knows hair!
It was a short time after this picture was taken, in 1986, that I turned 8 years old, and I was baptized. When I was baptized, my grandma Irma gave me a book entitled: "All About Me" - a "very personal journal" created by Candace Smith, for kids.
Throughout the journal there are questions for you to answer, places to draw pictures, write out your schedule, etc. I think shortly after I got it I was so excited to fill it out that I did just that.
I filled out the whole thing in one day!
On the first page, the very first "fill in the blank" sentance is,
"I started writing this journal on _________________."
Now, anyone can see that this is where you put the date.
Eight-year-old Edith put,
"I started writing this journal on the day I got it ."
So, unfortunately, I am not sure WHAT day I actually filled it out. In the back, there is a journal section and I wrote "Wednesday" in all of the pages, so it had to have been a Wednesday.
Here are some other cool things about 8-yr-old Edith...
- My favorite subject in school at the time was math
-
haha... at least I thought.
- My favorite outfit was my red church dress
- My favorite TV show was alf
- My favorite color was blue
- My favorite song was "there was a farmer had a dog and bingo was his name-o"
- My favorite time of the day was the night.
- Some things I thought were scary were bloody people and falling off my bike, cause it "herts"
And apparently sleep was the most important thing in my life, cause...
Look at that... my favorite possession was my bed. hahahahaa
And look at my hectic schedule...
My days consisted of watching cartoons, eating breakfast, playing, eating lunch, reading or resting in the afteroon, playing some more, watching TV, and then going to bed. I occassionally went to gymnastics.
Notice, I pretty much do the same thing every day, but my busiest day was "Tuesday." haha
And I love how I put "at 12:00 go to church some times. on Sunday"
And here's that sleep obssession coming out again...
-My favorite activity on this schedule is "sleeping all morning on saterday."
-The thing I wish I could change about my schedule is "wake up early all the time."
Well, I guess I can see why... I mean, I was playing ALL THE TIME. A kid gets tired!
Then there's the "IF" section...
sleep for the year.... Bwah-hahahahahaha!!!
My wants and wishes were simple...
I wanted to be very pretty... I mean LOOK at the drawing I did of a pretty girl! Two bows in her hair. Talk about a model!!
My 3 wishes...
1. that I would only have 3 kids - this is still the plan!
2. that I would have a beautiful house when I grow up - this is happening next year
3. that I would have everybody in my family with me everywhere I go. Awww, I still wish that!
And don't you love a child's concept of money? $1,000.00 in my little mind could buy a house and a car!!
Finally, here is a drawing I did at the time, of my family... If you will notice:
First it's my dad, then my mom, me, my brother, Nate, my other brother, Greg, My older sis, Heidi, and my little sister, Amber.
I find this picture interesting because at that age, my parents had already been divorced for about 4 years. My dad was never really a big part of my life, and to be around him made me feel uncomfortable. I think this reflects in the drawing.
Looking through my ALL ABOUT ME book, I can't help but think of the simplistic thought processes and innocence of children. The mind of a child really is something to be admired and cherrished.
When we have kids, Paul and I are going to try our best to document their experiences so they can look back on the good & bad times of their lives.

Well that's awesome. I remember you when you were 8! It's always fun to look through those things like that.
You have always been such an incredible person. You are wise beyond your years. When I read this section about your childhood it made me cry. I miss you!
