Madeline's First Homemade Dress.

To some of you making a dress is like breathing. It's not that big of a deal really. So you hold some fabric together and push it through a sewing machine... big whoop! But to me, it's something like a dream come true. I've always wanted to make cute clothes for my babies and for myself. It has been a goal of mine for my entire life really. For some reason, I never got around to it. There was always something else to do, some other task to accomplish.

Today I was just sitting around after I put Madeline in her crib for her nap and it hit me... go make a dress. I have material. I have thread (only one color though, black). I have a very nice sewing machine just sitting upstairs waiting to be used. So I did it. What's the worst that could happen?

I chose this fabric and some ribbon I had for my project...
Here it is! I think it turned out pretty darn good for a first try with no pattern or pins to hold it together. I just had an idea in my head and and voila! The ribbon, I thought, added a nice touch. It also covered up the black thread I used that didn't go so well with the fabric.
At first I was going to tie the sash at the neck around Madeline's neck, but it was too bulky.
So, instead, I sewed a couple of buttons on the back and did a cute little criss-cross thing... yes, the buttons are black. I don't know why everything I had was black.
And here's my little model showing off her new rags, which, possibly, they will be soon (just rags) because I only used a single stitch to sew all the edges. It doesn't seem too sturdy. I have no idea what will happen when I try to wash it.

All in all, I am extremely pleased with the result. Because I didn't use a pattern it was slightly longer on one side and my stitch isn't perfectly straight because I am still getting comfy with my sewing machine, but my mind is swarming with ideas now and I am excited to go to the fabric store and keep on sewing!

Hi
Dress is adorable, Great Job.
I wouldn't have the slightest idea on how to start. I tried with patterns but my sewing skills never developed.
