Pink Palace and Noodles.

Yesterday Paul and Madeline and I decided to get out of the house and go visit the Pink Palace Museum here in Memphis. Paul and I have been talking about going there ever since we moved here (almost 8 years ago) but it just never happened. I have a trial membership card that I have been meaning to use anyway, so off we went.

The Pink Palace is a family of historic, educational, and technological museums as well as a planetarium and an IMAX theatre. You can check it out here if you are so inclined.

I tried my best to get some smiles but it just wasn't happening...

We didn't go to the planetarium or any of the IMAX shows (they have a cool deep sea one or a Grand Canyon one that looked pretty neat) because Madeline probably wouldn't sit still in something like that. So we just checked out the exhibits they had.

They have an underground Memphis exhibit that talks about the history of Memphis and has a ton of historical items on display; It was really an awesome collection of stuff from the 1800's. In one area they had a pharmacy shop that had all these old medicines that people used to use like "coca (cocaine) cola, and this cough syrup for babies that contained Ammonia... yikes... and a lovely leech display. Can you imagine... "Oh, Doc, I have a sore throat!" "Hmm. I see. Well, we better break out the blood suckers and drain your blood."

They also had a dinosaur exhibit - which I was excited for - but left us all wanting more... it had like 4 or 5 mechanical dinosaurs (small) slowly moving their heads back and forth and ROARING really loud over and over. No vegetation, no fake displays of natural habitat... I'm sure they're working on it. They did have some really neat fossils downstairs of all different kinds of animals. My favorite was the teeny tiny hummingbird skeleton.

Madeline fell asleep in between it all, which I was expecting and was somewhat relieved about since she wasn't really interested in anything we were looking at.

Afterward we went to the Olive Garden for dinner. Madeline had a really good time there watching people. She was laughing at the waitress at one point and there was a little girl at the table next to us who would not stop rubbing Madeline's head. She was cute. She kept telling her mom to please buy her a little girl like Madeline so she could play with her.

Good times.
