Madeline has been having a rough couple of days the past week. She's had a really runny nose and no matter how much I suction, there always seems to be MORE snot. It's the clear snot though... sometimes white, but mostly clear - I bet you wanted to know that. Also, her eyes have been red and watery a lot. She hasn't had a fever, though at times she has been pretty warm. She's been extra fussy and needy and doesn't seem extremely happy for more than a minute when you introduce her to something new.
Now she is also chewing on everything like crazy, and I KNOW she is probably teething too, no buds yet though.
We try to keep her happy with tickles, and reading, and toys, and singing. I hug her and kiss her and hold her like crazy - so does Paul when he is home - but she's still pretty fussy.
The trees are blooming outside and it has been a lot warmer lately around here... could it just be allergies? Or does my baby have a cold? Teething? How does one tell the difference??? Today she started acting like she had a hairball or something in her throat so I gave her some water and she seemed okay, but then she started doing it again when she was having tummy time and got angry that she was on her tummy. She also did it right before she went down for a nap. I think she has some drainage or something.
Madeline is a smart cookie. I think she analyzes a situation, sees what works, and uses it to her advantage. When she first got a reaction to a cough that she did several weeks ago, she FAKE coughed for several days when she wanted attention. Yes, she is 6 months old, but if you could just SEE her when she does this.
All I can do is just be there for her - I know this. Make her feel as comfortable and happy as possible. Suck out her snot, give her drinks, rub her forehead... be there. I'm happy to do this! I love her tremendously!
I just wish babies came with an instruction manual that had a large troubleshooting section in the back...
baby is acting like she has a hairball and has a runny nose and red eyes, see page 250.
Any advice?

I think the trick is (as long as they're not SERIOUSLY ill) to just treat the symptoms. You can drive yourself crazy trying to find out the exact cause. I went through 5 kids before I discovered Mentholatum for kids. It's gentle enough to use on a new born. You just smooth some on her chest, feet, and the back of her neck. Good luck!
I am so sorry. I hate the kid sick guessing game. I was much better at the guessing game with jackson then I was with Isabella. Good luck :)
