4 Month Check-Up

Today was Madeline's 4 month visit to the pediatrician - even though she is actually 4 months and 10 days old. The stats:

Weight - 18.6 pounds, Length - 25 1/2 inches, and healthy as ever. Yes, she is a big girl. My pediatrician said she could probably skip a feeding or sleep through the night for 8 hours and be perfectly okay... I'm even getting smart aleck remarks from the doctors!

Right now Madeline eats about every 3 hours or so, sometimes it's more all over the place because she will eat just a little and then want more an hour later. At night she wakes up about every two hours to eat. I think that it's more habit and using me as a pacifier at night, so Paul and I are going to get serious starting this week about getting her to sleep in her crib. She usually does well falling asleep on her own at night without having to nurse.

Being a stay-at-home mom I feel like it's okay for me to just feed her when she wants to eat so we haven't been on any sort of fixed schedule really. We do usually end up nursing around the same times of day though just naturally. Yes I have been trying to space her feedings out more, but when she only nurses for 5 minutes and then refuses to proceed, I have to feed her sooner than later.

I will probably start Madeline on solids (rice cereal) between 5-6 months old. We're going to start out slow with just a little bit mixed with some breast milk and will go from there.

Of course Madeline got her shots today. Three shots in the thighs and one oral medication. I had nightmares last night about it. She does so good though. She gets startled, screams for a second, and the does baby grunts and swear words for a few minutes afterward. It's the cutest.

I've been wondering about Madeline all day, actually for the past couple of days, I've been saying that her apt is on tuesday, like when I talked to Michael earlier I mentioned that her apt was today... I'm glad it went well, and I see the little bandaids on her legs!! I have nightmares about it also. It makes me sick to think of it. So wierd, especially since I started an IV on a 4 day old baby yesterday (I didnt want to stick her poor arm, but I did)

So glad that she checked out so well. I hate the shots too, they make me sad everytime my kids have to have them. I am glad that she did well with them.

Ya know, I should-a called you Misty. I will want to hear how Brooke's apt goes on Thursday too! It's just different when it's YOUR baby getting poked.
I almost felt like I was going to hyperventilate today from the anticipation of the shots. It was awful!
