I was sitting on the couch several days ago and I felt something on one of my molars. It felt like maybe I had a popcorn kernel stuck on it or something, only, I hadn't been eating popcorn. So, I took my tongue and gently nicked at it. It definitely WASN'T a popcorn kernel... it was a crack in my tooth and the corner of my tooth came off!!!
Why did my tooth crack?? I don't know... no calcium? chewing on a candy cane earlier?
I was in the process of nursing the Madster, so I kept my freaking down to a dull roar, but I fa-reaked!
Reason for freaking. I have had several dreams throughout my life where my teeth begin to crack and fall out of my mouth... now it was happening in reality!!!
So, now I have this hole in the side/top corner of my third molar on the right side of my mouth. It doesn't hurt (THANKFULLY) but the edge of it is REALLY sharp and it pokes the side of my tongue every time I drink, eat, talk, or breath. It's really irritating, and if I'm not careful, it will probably draw blood.
So I made an appointment with a dentist for Wednesday (that was the soonest they could get me in). It will most likely require a crown of some sort. We've got pretty good dental insurance through Paul's work though so I am not anticipating ridiculous charges, I hope.
While I was at it, I made a dental appointment for Paul too since we haven't been to a dentist in over 2 years (I know, we suck)!!! Moral of the story...
Don't chew hard stuff.

Take a calcium supplement every day (especially if you are pregnant or nursing cause the baby takes all your calcium).
Brush and floss daily - at least morning and night - and see a dentist regularly.
