I'm Crackin' Up, And it is NOT a Laughing Matter.

I didn't think my teeth were supposed to fall apart like they do on cartoons, but apparently that is what's happening!!

Yesterday Paul and I went to the dentist. It has been a while since we've been, so I figured it was time. This is THE YEAR OF IMPROVING OUR HEALTH & SETTING PRIORITIES, so going to the dentist is one of those things we must do. Actually, this visit was prompted by one of my molars on the right side and the fact that a corner of it fell off (see post from a few days ago).

So we both had our teeth cleaned and polished, which was nice. Madeline came with us. I was a little hesitant about bringing her but I didn't think about finding a babysitter and I figured it would be okay. She is a pretty outrageous baby. She lived up to her reputation - she was fabulous. She slept a little, sat in her carseat and watched her dad get his teeth cleaned for a minute while my appointment was finishing up, and she won the hearts of the whole office. Even the dentist's weird emo kid thought she was cute - by the way crimeny what are kids thinking these days?!! (Wow that just made me feel old... but then again, so do my teeth so it is appropriate in this post.)

So the story is, apparently when I had a root canal over 8 years ago, I never got a cap put on it. When you have a root canal, your teeth become weaker and a cap is usually required to hold it in place and prevent... CRACKING. Well, I don't remember my old dentist ever telling me I needed a cap. Wouldn't I have gotten one??? So that ticked me off a bit. Of course, that root canal was over 7 years ago so who knows what occurred. I also have several old fillings that have some decay under them that need to be replaced.... and TWO MORE TEETH that are cracking. So I have to get 3 crowns/caps and replace the fillings on like 5 of my teeth!!!!! Yeah - I know. I don't believe that this mysterious cracking is all due to me happening to enjoy chewing on hard candy and ice once in a while. I believe when a person is pregnant, a lot of their calcium storage is used up by the growing baby... of course I base this belief on "word of mouth" at this time, rather than actual research, so I could be totally wrong about that... but doesn't it makes sense?

Paul needs a cap on a tooth and a really old filling replaced... that's it. Thank the heavens above!

In a series of 3 visits I will have the work done that is needed and then hopefully won't have any major issues ever again.

My mouth (after insurance) = $1400

Paul's mouth (after insurance) = $400

Brushing your teeth and flossing after every meal for the rest of my life, taking a calcium supplement, and never chewing on hard candy and ice again (or maybe just on holidays - I can't give up all guilty pleasures)? = Lesson Learned

That was so depressing. Here...

Now isn't that better? *smile*
